Limpopo’s law enforcement officers are looking for a motorist who are believed to be responsible for the death of two female hitchhikers.

How the nightmare unfolded

As reported by SABC News, two women, believed to be aged 26, were forced to jump out of a speeding white Nissan double cab bakkie at Bismarck village, outside Tzaneen.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Hanyane Mathebula, the two women were with three other men, aged between 19 and 21, when they hitched the 70km ride from Metz to Bismarck, in Limpopo.

The agreement that the hitchhikers may have had with the motorist is still unknown. However, things took a turn for the worse when the driver refused to stop the vehicle when he got to Bismarck.

It is believed the women and men were fearing for their lives which prompted them to jump out of the speeding bakkie. The two women suffered fatal injuries from their daring escape.

They were declared dead shortly after ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene. The three men sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital where they have been treated in the intensive care unit.

Case of double culpable homicide

The rogue motorist sped off and has become a prime suspect in a case of double culpable homicide. The deaths of the women have been attributed to the recklessness of the driver.

Limpopo investigators are tasked with the tough job of tracking down the motorist for questioning.

At the centre of the investigation will be the three survivors whose account of the horror ordeal will be key to piecing together a profile of the motorist.

Currently, though, there are not that many leads Limpopo police can go on in terms of evidence at their disposal.
