A 38-year-old man from Limpopo will likely never see the outside of prison again, after he received three life sentences as well as an additional 10 years behind bars for rape. Ramoketse Letsepe Mokgolobotho was found guilty of raping four women between aged 19 and 21 in Botlokwa.

“His reign of terror started in October 2015 at Botlokwa. Two of the victims were asleep when he broke into their house at night,” the National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson in Limpopo Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said on Thursday, 11 February 2021.

According to the NPA, Mokgolobotho threatened the women with a firearm and then raped both of them twice. He continued with his rape spree, carrying out the attacks in a similar way.

“He was ultimately arrested in 2017 when he attacked his last victim, a 21-year-old woman. He broke into her house while she was fast asleep and alone, applying his same tactics,” Malabi-Dzhangi further said.

DNA linked Mokgolobotho to rape incidents

Malabi-Dzhangi further added that it was thanks to DNA evidence, which implicated Mokgolobotho and linked him to more than four other rape incidents.

Limpopo’s director of public prosecutions advocate Ivy Thenga, has welcomed his lengthy sentence and said the jail terms would send a clear warning to potential offenders.

“This sentence shows that violence against women can no more be tolerated,” she said, commending the SAPS and the prosecution team for their work in bringing Mokgolobotho to book.

At the same time, a 27-year-old man from Ga-Tamatis has been found guilty of raping a disabled 14-year-old girl, and was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Lebowakgomo regional court.

“The man, a well-known person to the victim, called her to his bedroom while she was playing with his younger brother. The man undressed her and raped her in front of her sibling. When he finished, he released them,” Malabi-Dzhangi said.

“The brother reported the ordeal to an uncle when they returned home. The matter was reported to the police and the girl was taken”
