Mob burns to death Limpopo teacher accused of stealing goats

A Limpopo teacher was severely assaulted and burnt to death by a mob who accused him stealing goats he had reportedly purchased.

Limpopo police have condemned the murder of a teacher accused of stealing goats who was allegedly assaulted and burnt to death by a mob. 

The incident reportedly happened on Saturday, 2 July 2022 in Lebowakgomo.  

LIMPOPO TEACHER BURNT TO DEATH 

According to police, the deceased was reportedly driving his motor vehicle in possession of an unknown number of goats that he purchased in Mamaolo, Ga-Mphahlele village, Limpopo. 

Unexpectedly, the victim’s vehicle was stopped by a mob who pulled him outside of his motor vehicle. Afterwards, the victim was severely assaulted and burned to death together with his motor vehicle after being suspected of stock theft, police said. 

Limpopo police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Mamphaswa Seabi said police were summoned to the scene and upon their arrival they found a burnt out bakkie and the victim lying a few metres burned beyond recognition away from the vehicle.

Police did not find the suspected stolen goats at the scene of crime.

“The deceased is originally from KwaZulu-Natal province and was a resident in Lebowakgomo Zone A.

“Members of the community are cautioned not to take the law into their own hands but rather handover the suspects to the police for further Police investigation and prosecution.”

A manhunt has since been launched for the suspects and police have urged anyone with information that can lead to the suspect’s arrest to contact the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Makadani on 0720297499 or crime stop number 0860010111 or nearest police station or My SAPSApp.

Police investigations are continuing.

BUFFALO ATTACKS AND KILLS 50-YEAR-OLD

In a separate incident, police in Lephalale are investigating a case of inquest after a buffalo attacked and killed a man at Oxford Farm in Limpopo. 

The 50-year-old was reportedly with the farm owner and a photographer when the buffalo attacked him after he allegedly fired shots at the buffalo, unfortunately he died instantly.

According to police, when the farm owner tried to rescue him by firing some shots at the buffalo, subsequently the buffalo chased and attacked him as well.

He escaped by climbing on the tree and the photographer also managed to keep a safe distance.
