Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said on Monday 11 may that the South African caseload of COVID-19 cases had shot up to 10 652, and increase of 637 cases since Sunday.
He also reported 12 more deaths, with eight in the Western Cape, two in the Eastern Cape and one in both KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and North West. There have been 206 deaths due to the virus in total.
356 067 tests have been completed in total, with 14 731 in the last 24-hours. There have been 4 357 recoveries to date.
This is the first death to occur in the North West.

The Western Cape remains by far the most badly affected province, with over 50% of cases being reported in the province.
Mkhize has said that the numbers both there and in the Eastern Cape are concerning, and has called for more stringent restrictions to be placed on the provinces.
President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to visit the Western Cape on 15 May to assess the situation.
