Warning: Disruptive snow expected in THESE parts of KZN TODAY

An Orange Level 6 warning for disruptive snow was issued for the Eastern Cape. This will also affect parts of KZN.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for disruptive snow set to affect parts of KZN.

SNOW EXPECTED IN PARTS OF KZN

The initial warning was issued for the Eastern Cape but weather service said the snow could also affect parts of KZN and lead to dangerous driving conditions, some pass closures and isolated loss of vulnerable livestock.

These are the affected areas:

  • Western parts of uThukela
  • uMgungundlovu
  • Harry Gwala District

VARIOUS WEATHER WARNINGS ISSUED FOR THE EASTERN CAPE 

As previously reported by The South African, the weather service issued an Orange Level 5 warning for damaging winds that could result in damage to settlements, properties and temporary infrastructure. 

Areas that might be affected include the Sarah Baartman District Municipality and the western parts of the Chris Hani District Municipality on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, 7 July, SWAS also issued a Yellow Level 6 warning for disruptive snow for parts of the Eastern Cape. The snow is expected to make landfall on Sunday, 9 July and Monday, 10 July.

The weather service said the snow  could  result  in  major  mountain  passes  closed,  isolate communities and loss of livestock is expected over these areas:

  • Chris Hani
  • Joe Gqabi District  Municipalities
  • Matatiele
  • Umzimvubu
  • Raymond Mhlaba and Dr. Beyers Naude (Graaf Reinet) Local Municipalities
