KZN horror crash: Nine killed in Ixopo accident involving trucks, taxi and bakkie

At least nine people suffered fatal injuries in an accident involving three trucks, a taxi and a bakkie in southern KZN on Thursday morning.

An accident on the R612 between Ixopo and Highflats in southern KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) claimed the lives of at least nine people on Thursday morning, 2 September, and a dozen more were injured, according to provincial emergency medical services (EMS).

KZN EMS CONFIRM AT LEAST NINE FATALITIES

KZN EMS spokesperson Robert McKenzie said the cause of the tragic accident, which involved at least three trucks, a minibus taxi and a bakkie, is unknown at this stage. Nine people were killed and 12 others were injured.

“There has been a tragic crash on the R612 near Ixopo,” said McKenzie. “Sadly 9 people have sustained fatal injuries in a multiple vehicle crash. Paramedics have treated 12 patients at the scene. The cause of the crash isn’t known at this stage.”

Emergency services remain at the scene and traffic is being diverted.
