Kusile Unit 3 returns to service, expected to improve capacity by 800 MW
Eskom says Kusile Power Station Unit 3 returned to service two months ahead of schedule and will improve generation capacity by 800 MW.

Eskom has confirmed that the first unit, amongst the three impacted by the collapse of stacks in October 2022 at Kusile Power Station, has returned to service.
KUSILE POWER STATION UNIT RETURNS TO SERVICE
According to the power utility, Kusile Power Station Unit 3 returned to service two months ahead of schedule and will improve the available generation capacity by 800 MW’s once loaded to full capacity.
“This marks a significant milestone in Eskom’s efforts to reduce and ultimately end loadshedding.
“The switch on was done after receiving the positive decision on the Kusile Atmospheric Emission Licence (AEL) appeal from the Minister of Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) and the Nkangala District Municipality,” the utility said.

ESKOM SUSPENDS LOAD SHEDDING AGAIN
Meanwhile, Eskom has suspended load shedding until 16:00 on Monday, 2 October.
The power utility previously announced that Stage 2 load shedding would be implemented from 16:00 on Sunday, 1 October until 05:00 on Monday.
In a brief statement, the power utility said due to the return to service of Kusile 3, the sustained improved generation performance and the lower than anticipated demand for electricity, loadshedding will be suspended until 16:00 on Monday, when Stage 2 loadshedding will be implemented.
“Eskom will communicate should any significant changes occur,” the power utility said.
