Kirkwood: Farm manager, 68, dies after being attacked

A 23-year-old suspect was arrested for allegedly stabbing a man to death in Aquapark, Kirkwood. The police are also searching for the suspects responsible for killing a man at a vegetable project farm near Bersheba.

The Kirkwood police, in the Eastern Cape, are investigating two murders that took place on Monday, 25 October. An arrest has been made in one of the cases, while the suspect in the second case remains at large.

MAN STABBED AFTER CONFRONTATION

South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana said that Willem Olifant, 42, was allegedly stabbed to death after a confrontation at a house in Aquapark, Kirkwood on Monday.

The police were called to the house in Eureka Street, Aquapark at approximately 6:00 and found Olifant’s lifeless body lying on the floor with a stab wound to the upper body.

A 23-year-old suspect was arrested for the alleged murder and two knives were seized for further investigation.

“The circumstances relating to the incident will form part of the murder investigation,” said Kinana.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 27 October on charges of murder.

FARM MANAGER FOUND DEAD AT KIRKWOOD FARM

The police are also investigating an unrelated murder that took place in Kirkwood at approximately 3:30 on Monday.

A 68-year-old farm manager was found with “open wounds to his upper body” after being attacked at a vegetable project farm near Bersheba, Kirkwood.

“The victim was transported to a local hospital to receive medical attention where he later succumbed to his injuries. The motive for the attack is unknown at this stage,” said the police spokesperson.
