The team stated that the man “shoved her into the office at the back of the store […] with another employee,” where he shot the victim “numerous times.”

Domestic abuse is a joke in South Africa

Unfortunately, the Killarney Mall shooting also highlighted the sad reality that domestic abuse and the murder of women is still a joke to many. A quick glance at responses to the incident proves just that.

After Abramjee shared the news on Twitter, one user who refrained from tweeting under his real name said, “Shopping is always hard with the spouse.

The tweet had more than 30 likes, and another user responded: “Its [sic] always difficult with unfinished issues coupled with shopping without a shopping list.”

Another user “wondered what drove” the man to kill his wife, while yet another remarked that women and their “love for cash” are the reasons for “so many killings”:

“Some women have commercialized relationships that’s why there are so many killings bcos [sic] it’s more of a deal that a relationship. It’s love for cash.”

Another user said – we could go on but we’ll stop here – that women provoke men into killing them:

“#WomenAreTrash. They provoke man, you give them everything but they will still cheat just for sitting in the front seat of a car of a dude that’s also married.”
