Two off-duty police Sergeants shot dead in Khayelitsha
Two police officers were killed in separate incidents, half an hour apart, in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Sunday evening.

Two off-duty police officers were shot dead in separate incidents in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Sunday, 11 June.
POLICE KILLED IN KHAYELITSHA ON SUNDAY
Both incidents occurred on Sunday evening. A 36-year-old Sergeant based at the Elsies River Police Station was gunned down in Site C, Khayelitsha, at approximately 17:30.
The victim was driving along Solomon Tshuku Street when a gunman approached the vehicle and let off several shots. “He was rushed to hospital where he later died,” said Brigadier Novela Potelwa.

Half an hour later, another Sergeant, 43, was with friends in Mandela Park when unknown gunmen shot him dead. The police suspect the incident was robbery related. The victim was stationed in Nyanga.
“The two police officials were in the prime of their lives. They still had a lot to offer to the communities of the Western Cape. As the management of SAPS, we will continue to keep the bereaved families in our thoughts and prayers,” said Acting Western Cape police commissioner Major-General Bongani Maqashalala

Two murder dockets have been opened for investigation, and no arrests have been made thus far.
SEVEN SAPS MEMBERS DIED LAST WEEK
The South African previously reported that seven police officers died last week, including Detective Warrant Officer Neels Du Rand, Brigadier Jackson Mkhaulesi, Lieutenant-Colonel Morris Lekone Mohajane, Constable Ngwako Ronaldo Mohlopi, Constable Sakhiwe Albert Mnende and ConstableMmamatlhomola Maria Mokoena and Sergeant Maja.
