Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema says if Western Cape Premier, Alan Winde wants to meet his maker he must try to touch Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued a warrant of arrest for Putin for alleged war crimes. The Russian President is set to visit South Africa in August for the BRICS Summit.

MALEMA WARNS WINDE AGAINST ARRESTING PUTIN

On Thursday, 27 April, the Democratic Alliance-led Western Cape government said if Putin sets foot in the province, he will be arrested by the provincially funded Law Enforcement Advancement Plan (LEAP) officers. “If the South African Police Service is not instructed to act, we will,” Premier Alan Winde said.

The DA chastised the national government for its impartial stance on the Russian invasion of Ukraine since the war broke out in February last year.

Speaking during the Andries Tatane campaign in Diepkloof on Saturday, Malema issued a warning to Alan Winde.

“President Putin is more than welcome here, no one is going to arrest him, everyone who says that is blowing hot air. I don’t think the Premier of Western Cape knows what he’s talking about..if he wants to meet his maker prematurely he must try and touch Putin. No one, not even Biden can say such a reckless statement,” he said.

Malema said Putin is more than welcome.

WC GOVERNMENT ACCUSED OF NOT CARING FOR PEOPLE

Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader, Gayton McKenzie also subtly accused Winde of being too ambitious.

McKenzie said for more than two decades they have been told that the Western Cape government does not have powers to arrest gang members that kill people.

“We are shocked, sad and angry to hear that they are ready to arrest President Putin. The deaths of our people mean nothing to this government,” McKenzie wrote.
