Gas leak detected after Joburg CBD explosion – Egoli Gas
Egoli Gas says a small gas leak was detected on Bree Street following an explosion in the Johannesburg CBD.

Gas and oil company Egoli Gas says a small leak has been detected on the servitude pipeline at the corner of Bree and Eloff Streets on a 100mm pipe following an explosion in the Johannesburg CBD Wednesday afternoon.
At least one person died while 48 people have been injured while 12 were admitted at the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital.
Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi told the media the body of a man was recovered near where the explosion occurred and it is yet to be identified.

Egoli Gas said they believe the crack in the pipe has been caused by the collapse of the road and a team is busy repairing the leak.
“Egoli Gas notes that there are approximately 15 other utility lines in the same area, for example a sewerage line that runs directly underneath the street. We would like to reiterate that our pipelines run on the servitude of the road,” the company said.

The company said it is in the early stages of the investigation and its technicians are currently on site.
