Jabu Mahlangu featured in 20 matches for the South African national football team, representing his country in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 Olympic Games. Throughout his career, he showcased his talents at several clubs, including SV Mattersburg, SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates, Östers IF, and F.C. Cape Town. Yet, he gained the most recognition for his exceptional contributions during his debut stint with Kaizer Chiefs.

He was born on 11 July 1980 in Daveyton, South Africa. As of this writing, Jabu Mahlangu’s age is 43 years and his star sign is Cancer.

Growing up, Jabu had it rough. According to Sunday Times Live, he was raised in a tumultuous household with alcoholic parents. As a result, he became a heavy drinker in his mid-teens, often requiring retrieval from a tavern to attend his school team’s events.

Unfortunately, in 2000, when he was 20 years old, he lost his mother. This deepened his loneliness and got him into cocaine and fast women.


Internationally, Jabu represented his country in the 2002 FIFA World Cup and 2000 Olympic Games. He garnered fame during his career, representing the national football team in 20 matches from 2000 to 2004. While he donned jerseys for various clubs, including SV Mattersburg, SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates, Östers IF, and F.C. Cape Town, his glory days shone brightest at his inaugural club, Kaizer Chiefs.

According to Transfer Markt, he appeared 31 times in DStv Premiership competitions, 22 times in the Bundesliga and 22 times in Superettan. Additionally, he made two appearances in the ÖFB-Cup and once in the CAF-Champions League.

However, his recurrent disciplinary issues led to his dismissal from most of these clubs, prompting him to legally change his name from Jabu Pule, his mother’s surname, to Jabu Mahlangu in 2006.

According to TVSA, in 2013, Jabu transitioned into acting, taking on the recurring role of Pule, a former soccer star turned hair stylist and shampoo boy, in the Mzansi Magic sitcom Samsokolo.


Jabu has maintained his private life away from the limelight. Nonetheless, he is married to Thwana Mahlangu, with whom he has three children, two girls and a boy. The pair wed when Thwana was 19 and Jabu was 24.

The two have been through thick and thin as Thwana stuck with her husband throughout his drug addiction and recovery journey. In his documentary, His Story: Jabu Mahlangu, the football star gave his side in drug abuse, and how it affects his family.

In January 2022, Sunday World reported that Jab was involved in a car accident in Benoni. Allegedly, his white BMW M4 collided head-on with a Toyota Quantum taxi. Mabu Marweshe, Mahlangu’s attorney, stated that Mahlangu received medical treatment at Far East Hospital in Springs for his injuries.
