It’s question time Mr President, time to face the music

As Zuma prepares for his first round of parliamentary questions, we took a look at some of the key issues el presidente will have to – but probably won’t – deal with when MPs start their assault in the National Assembly.

It’s question time Mr Presiden

As far as accountability is concerned, don’t expect any when JZ takes to the stage tomorrow. While we can sit here and knock out scenario after scenario, the truth is he’s going to do what he wants anyway.

That said we’ve looked at some of the most worrying events in the months following his last question session – August 21 2014 – and condensed them to three key issues that most def need discussing.

The Nuclear deal with Russia

A long, long time ago in a country decades more advanced than 2015 SA – 2007 SA – a plan was made to build two new nuclear reactors, one of which would have been a super high-tech pebble-bed reactor.
Fast-forward to the Zuma era and it was decided these two would be scrapped and replaced with two of the world’s largest coal-powered stations. Fast-forward a little more and now it seems the nuclear idea is back on, but with a twist.

See, our rules say that there should be an open, fair and competitive tender process when SA outsources nuclear development to other countries.

Zuma, however, has decided to take things into his own hands and push through an agreement with Russia – yes, the country that lost the cold war and is responsible for Chernobyl, one of the biggest nuclear catastrophes in history… not to mention their shoddy nuclear submarine track-record – which not only forces us to use their ‘technology’, but also indemnifies them against any ‘accidents’, essentially.

Zuma’s preferential candidate programme in key democratic institutions

Jeez Louise, the man sure has been busy. From the head of SARS, the head of the State Security Agency and the new head of the so-called Independent Electoral Commission; Jacob has systematically placed his BFF’s at the top of pretty much every institution you’d need to effectively run an Orwellian scenario… and there’s no sign of slowing.

The mess that is the Hawks

Investigate Zuma. No wait, don’t investigate Zuma. Sh*t, we’ve investigated Zuma and now we’re being fired. Oh thank God, we’ve been cleared so we can get our jobs back, but wait… why aren’t they giving us our jobs back?
Nuff said.

Zum’s will only be answering six questions tomorrow, and only the one’s he didn’t get to answer last year… if we could, we’d have him account for our top three as well though. Thoughts?
