The African National Congress in KZN has defended its chairperson Siboniso Duma against sexism allegations metted against him following the Springbok trophy tour in Durban.
Duma came under fire from social media and political parties for taking the limelight and allegedly overshadowing Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube.
The party’s provincial leadership has also accused its Women’s League of attacking Duma without facts.

Provincial Secretary General Bheki Mtolo says they have messages from Dube-Ncube agreeing for Duma to lift the trophy.
“Nobhala and officials, please let’s not allow these detractors to play cheap politics at dividing the ANC and the public. We actually laughed with Comrade Mthombeni yesterday about the fact that he is the one that will match Elizabeth because of his height”, the message says.
Mtolo says as a party they are disappointed by the ANCWL conduct.
“Under normal circumstances, we would have expected the ANCWL to engage the ANC provincial leadership using internal processes instead of this reckless posture that is divisive and factional at its best”, the secretary General says.

“We call upon the ANCWL to do an honest introspection. They must assess the performance of its current leaders serving at the national level.”
To prove their point the party has said that Duma has championed for women to be in leadership positions within the organisation.
