Amid mounting concerns over water safety, the City of Tshwane is advising the public to disregard a deceptive message circulating on various social media platforms. This caution comes in response to a misleading notice urging residents not to consume tap water.

The Tshwane Municipality allegedly issued a fraudulent notice on Monday. It falsely claims that the water supply is contaminated and could lead to Typhoid Flu.

However, City of Tshwane has denounced the message and the accompanying notice as fake news.

“The public is cautioned not to fall for this fake news ,” stated City of Tshwane, emphasising the importance of verifying information before spreading it further.

“As there is no such notice issued by the City.”

Water Department releases Blue Drop Report

The Department of Water and Sanitation, in its full Blue Drop Report released on 5 December 2023, provides an assessment of drinking water quality across the region.

According to the report, drinking water systems in major metropolitan areas generally meet the required standards, with Gauteng boasting the highest percentage of systems performing excellently or well at 62%.
