Israel have waged a devastating military campaign on the Gaza Strip over the past three months dating back to 7 October and have since wiped out at least 22,000 Gazans, which equates to 1% of the Palestinian population residing on the Strip.

The International Criminal Court(ICJ) also known as the World Court, will hear South Africa’s genocide case against Israel in The Hague, Netherlands on Thursday and Friday.

South Africa were initially scheduled to make their legal arguments between 10am and 12pm on Thursday and Israel primed to make their counter-claim to genocide on Friday over the same time-frame.

However, the ICJ on Wednesday confirmed that the time for both sessions have been revised with times lots extended by an hour from 10am to 1pm on Israel’s request.

“The schedule for the public hearings on the Request for the indication of provisional measures submitted by South Africa on 29 December 2023 has been revised. The two sessions, which are due to take place on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 January 2024, have been extended by one hour, further to a request from Israel,” the ICJ said in a statement.

The revised schedule is as follows:

  • Thursday 11 January 2024 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Oral argument (South Africa)
  • Friday 12 January 2024 10 a.m.-1 p.m.: Oral argument (Israel)
