Police in Mankweng are investigating a case of murder after a husband allegedly shot his wife following a heated argument.

The incident happened at Mankweng Unit D on Sunday, 2 April.

HUSBAND ALLEGEDLY SHOOTS WIFE DEAD

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), it is alleged both the suspect and victim, who are a husband and wife, had an argument that became so heated that the husband pulled out a 9mm firearm and shot his wife, who was taken by an ambulance to the hospital where she sadly succumbed to the injuries.

The husband (suspect) allegedly drove his car to Mankweng Police Station, where he handed himself to the police. The firearm he allegedly used was confiscated for further investigation.

SAPS spokesperson in Limpopo, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, said what prompted the argument that led to the subsequent shooting is currently unknown, but domestic-related problems cannot be ruled out.

Limpopo Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, condemned the shooting incident, calling on couples who might be experiencing marital or relationship problems to urgently seek assistance to avoid gender-based violence incidents as it is becoming a societal problem.

The husband is expected to appear before Mankweng Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of murder.
