The Miss Universe Pageant is underway Stateside, and the 90 hopefuls hoping to take the tiara include Zozibini Tunzi (Miss SA). The striking beauty from the Eastern Cape is in Atlanta ahead of the weekend’s show-stopping ceremony, which will feature the top 20 girls who have been voted for by the public.

Who is Zozibini Tunzi?

This is where our patriotic committment to #CountryDuty comes in. You can vote for Tunzi from anywhere in the world, whether that’s South Africa or the South Sandwich Islands. Needless to say, Miss SA is facing some fierce competition – and she’ll need every vote she can get to follow in the footsteps of Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters. This is how her profile reads on the Miss Universe voting page:

“Zozibini Tunzi is a passionate activist and engaged in the fight against gender based violence. She has devoted her social media campaign to changing the narrative around gender stereotypes. She is a proud advocate for natural beauty and encourages women to love themselves the way they are.”

Miss SA 2017 won Miss Universe two years ago. In fact, South Africa came agonisingly close to pulling off the double in 2018 – our entrant Tamaryn Green finished second during the pageant. For Zozibini Tunzi, she’s desperate to go all the way this year – and here’s how we can all play a part.

Miss SA: How to vote for Zozibini Tunzi at Miss Universe

The voting process is pretty simple, if we’re being honest. You visit this link, then scroll down to number 79 (where Miss SA is placed alphabetically) and click the star next to Zozibini Tunzi’s name. That’s your vote registered. However, there are ways to “enhance” a competitor’s popularity. But it comes at a cost.

By paying $1 – about R15 – you can actually add three votes on to Tunzi’s cause. $4.99 will buy you 15 votes in her name, and $9.99 puts another 30 on to the tally. In fact, the most you can contribute is $99.99 – a payment which will add a whopping 300 votes on. Miss Universe isn’t the most democratic exercise when there’s money involved, put it that way.

Voting for Miss Universe

But, we can do this simply by using our “people power” in South Africa. When we need to rally around each other, we usually do a pretty good job. For every person willing to drop R1 500 on their preferred choice, we’d wager there’s at least 300 of us who will vote for Zozibini Tunzi and keep the SA flag flying high!

So get clicking, and start sharing. For those voting, there’s some important information to know:

  • You can only vote if you’re 14 or older.
  • Voting closes at 6:59 SAST on the morning of Saturday 7 December
  • The 20 most popular entrants go through to the semi-finals of the competition, before the finals on Sunday.
