Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu has confirmed that the R350 grant will be open to applicants by the end of this week, allowing millions of South Africans to apply for their financial security net once more.
Zulu, speaking at a media briefing, revealed that the government has plans to make this payment a ‘stepping stone’ towards a Basic Income Grant. She also stated that any claimants waiting on payments WILL receive them soon:
“The Special COVID-19 SRD grant should ideally be a stepping stone to a Basic Income Grant. We are working on the Policy aspects surrounding this, including the implementation and resource mobilisation aspects.
“Those recipients who have not updated their details are once again reminded to respond to SASSA requests to update their information. All recipients who may have not received some of their payments during the first iteration of the grant between May 2020 – April 2021 will eventually be paid what is owed to them.”
“Those recipients who have not updated their details are once again reminded to respond to SASSA requests to update their information. The R350 grant is in place for eight months, with effect from August 2021 until March 2022.”
Applications for the R350 grant are open from the 6th of August 2021 – Minister of Social Development, Lindiwe Zulu

Even if you received R350 grant payments before, you’ll need to apply from scratch to claim it this time around. Sadly, that will mean millions of people will have to carry out their applications for a third occasion.
Any potential beneficiaries will be asked to provide an ID document or affidavit to prove their identity. Once completed, you will then be required to submit proof of your banking details, contact numbers, proof of residence, and if possible, documents which show you are in need of financial support. All applications can be done online:
