There is a bit of hope for responsible driving by taxi drivers in the East Rand after a station conducted road awareness this week.
Ivory Park SAPS Communications Officer Captain Ben Matimulane says the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS has praised his officers who embarked on a road awareness campaign to sensitise drivers about the value of responsible driving.
“Ivory Park police officers visited taxi ranks where people heading to different destinations were.”

He explained: “As part of the campaign the drivers were cautioned against the dangers of not resting, the dangers of unroadworthy vehicles, the transportation of stolen goods and driving vehicles while under the influence of liquor. The police team from the Ivory Park’s social crime prevention, together with sector managers, also distributed pamphlets speaking to the issues mentioned and on how to reach police assistance during emergency situations”.

Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the Ivory Park Station Commander, said: “We appeal to every driver to exercise patience and to observe the rules of the road. Those who get caught violating these laws may experience a December they would rather forget- a stint in our police cells.”
“Our police officers are out and about as part of more boots on the ground. Safer festive season to educate through these campaigns and to arrest if the situation so determines,” said Brigadier Ngcobo.
This is a developing story.
