HERE: What to do if you have not passed matric

Repeating grade 12, re-mark or re-write in June are among the number of options available in order eventually obtain a matric certificate

The release of the 2023 matric results on Friday may have confirmed some of the learners biggest fears. However there are still ways to obtain a matric certificate if you have failed.

On Thursday, Minister of Basic Education Angie Motsekga announced the 2023 matric class had achieved an overall pass rate of 82,9%.

OPTIONS STILL REMAIN TO OBTAIN MATRIC CERTIFICATE

Not obtaining a matric certificate is not however the end of the road, as there a still a number of options available. Candidates may either chose to enroll for the June Exams as supplementary exams have been scrapped.

In order to qualify to write the June exams, candidates must have have a valid reason as to why they missed one or two of their November exams .

Learners are also able to query the results- this must be done within 30days after the release of the results.

NOT ABLE TO RE-WRITE IN JUNE?

If you do not qualify to write the upcoming June NSC examination, the following options are available:

  • Re-enrol for the NSC as a full-time repeater candidate at a school without delay, provided that the candidate is younger than 21 years of age. Candidates need to enrol for 7 subjects(including Life Orientation) and have to comply with all SBA requirements.
  • Register as a part-time repeater candidate at a Public Adult Education Centre.
  • Register for the Senior Certificate (SC) examination which is a school leaving qualification for adults and out-of school learners who are above 21 years of age.
  • Alternatively, candidates that were not successful in their examinations could consider vocational education and training.
