GRAPHIC: Murder parolee loses eye in HORRIFIC pit bull attack

A murder parolee lost his eye when two pit bulls attacked and mauled him in KZN on Sunday morning.

According to Reaction Unit SA (RUSA), the 44-year-old murder parolee, Lazarus Appalsamy, was attacked by two pit bulls while walking to his house in Trenance Park.

“Lazarus Appalsamy was arrested and convicted for a gruesome murder approximately 20 years ago.

“Ironically, he had stabbed the eyeball of a bus conductor on Wick Street in Verulam – Kwazulu Natal and then brutally murdered him. He is currently out on parole.“

THE MURDER PAROLEE LOST HIS EYE IN THE DOG ATTACK

The attack happened on Sunday morning. The dogs belonged to Appalsamy’s neighbour.

“Residents witnessing the midnight attack in progress contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 00:01. Reaction Officers were immediately dispatched to the scene and, on arrival, discovered Appalsamy lying on the side of the road.”

‘IRONICALLY, HE STABBED THE EYEBALL OF HIS MURDER VICTIM YEARS AGO’

According to Balram, Appalsamy said he was returning home after visiting a friend when his neighbour’s two pit bulls jumped over the driveway gate and attacked him.

“His friend attempted to assist but was bitten on his arm and leg. According to witnesses, the dogs mauled Appalsamy for more than 20 minutes before their owner arrived and removed them back to his property.”

Balram said Appalsamy lost his left eyeball while chunks of flesh were ripped off his arms, legs, and body.

CHUNKS OF FLESH WERE RIPPED OFF HIS ARMS, LEGS, AND BODY

He furthermore said the dogs have previously mauled other people in the area according to residents.

“It was alleged Appalsamy’s 73-year-old mother was the victim of one of the previous attacks. She allegedly laid criminal charges against the owner, and the matter is currently being addressed in court. Reaction Officers could not immediately confirm this information.”

Appalsamy and his injured friend were expedited to Osindisweni Government Hospital (OGH) for urgent medical attention and remained in critical condition.
