Grade 12 student dies after a brawl on a school camp in Limpopo

The grade 12 learner died on Friday after being beaten in the head with an item by another learner at the matric school camp, according to Limpopo Department of Education spokesperson Mike Maringa.

A Grade 12 student was killed after a brawl at a school camp at Mpirwabirwa Secondary School in Limpopo.

According to IOL, Willem Ngoepe died on Friday after being beaten in the head with an item by another learner at the matric school camp, according to Limpopo Department of Education spokesperson Mike Maringa.

“The incident occurred on Thursday, 17 August 2023, evening at Mpirwabirwa Secondary School, and the matric student died the next day as a result of his injuries.” “On Monday, social workers will be dispatched to the school to provide psychosocial support,” he stated.

Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, Limpopo Education MEC, has expressed condolences to the Ngoepe family following the unfortunate death of their son.

The incident has since been reported to the police.

GRADE 12 STUDENT MARKS ONE OF A HALF A DOZEN STUDENTS KILLED

After more than a half-dozen students were killed in three months, schools have become the scene of violent crimes in which children are killed.

According to the police chief, seven students were killed in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2023–24, while 55 rape cases were registered across the country.

MOTSHEKGA BLAMES GANG VIOLENCE IN SCHOOLS

A rash of school deaths has occurred, with Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga blaming this on gang violence in schools.

Motshekga told parliament a few months ago that steps were being put in place to combat gang violence.

She stated that they were collaborating with various parties, including the police, communities, and other groups, to eradicate the problem.

Norman Sekhukhune, the police’s head of crime research, informed members of the portfolio committee on police that while seven students were killed in schools in the last three months, two students were also killed at university institutions.

He stated that three rape instances had been reported at universities. Six rapes were also recorded in daycare centers during this time period.

Police Minister Bheki Cele stated that they were attempting to disperse resources in order to respond to criminal situations.
