UPDATE: Grade 11 pupil arrested for KILLING fellow learner
A 21-year-old Grade 11 pupil will be appearing in court soon for allegedly stabbing his fellow school mate during an after-school fight.

A Grade 11 pupil has been arrested for the alleged fatal stabbing of another pupil in Vlakfontein on Thursday.
PUPIL STABBED DURING FIGHT AT SCHOOL
A Grade 11 boy from Qalabotjha Secondary School was stabbed during a fight outside the school on Thursday.
Gauteng Education Department spokesperson Steve Mabona said the stabbing took place after a fight reportedly broke out between a group of boys in the afternoon.
“Unfortunately, the said learner was allegedly stabbed in the chest during the fight.”

The pupil was rushed to a nearby clinic but unfortunately died as he was receiving medical attention, Mabona said.

POLICE FIND AND ARREST THE SUSPECTED CULPRIT
The police have confirmed the incident, stating that the deceased pupil was 20 years old.
Spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo confirmed that a group of boys were fighting outside the school premises. But one of them was stabbed with a sharp object in the upper body.
“Police went searching for the suspects and arrested a fellow learner who has since been charged with murder.”
The cause of the fight cannot be confirmed at this stage but investigations are underway, said Masondo.
The arrested pupil is expected to appear before Lenasia Magistrates Court in due course, Masondo said.
According to the department, it is suspected the fight could be related to gangsterism.

GAUTENG EDUCATION DEPARTMENT TO INTERVENE
The Gauteng Department of Education will be deploying its psychosocial team on Friday to the school. The team will be providing the necessary counselling and support, said Mabona.
“We wish to convey our sincerest condolences to the learner’s family and the school community at large.”
The department has urged the community to avoid disrupting the current matric examinations due to the stabbing incident.
“We implore the community to not disrupt the schooling and teaching as our Grade 12 learners are still in the process of writing their final exams.
