Minister David Maynier, overseeing the Education Department in the Western Cape, has issued a crucial announcement. This marks the imminent commencement of the school admissions process for the 2025 academic year.

The school admissions window for these crucial grades is set to open precisely at 00h01 on 11 March. It will conclude promptly at 23h59 on 12 April.

Notably, this initial phase of school admissions is exclusively tailored to cater to Grade 1 and Grade 8 placements.

Second admissions window open date

However, for parents seeking enrollment for Grade R or transfers between schools for Grades 2 to 7 and Grades 9 to 12, a second school admissions window will be available from 1 August to 16 August.

Minister Maynier has emphasised the importance of parents and guardians proactively assembling and certifying the necessary documentation well in advance of the school admissions window’s opening.

These essential certified documents include:

  • Last official school report card
  • Proof of identity
  • Immunization card (for primary schools)
  • Proof of residence

Furthermore, Minister Maynier underlined the significance of submitting applications in a timely manner, urging parents to utilise the available resources to facilitate the process.

Certifying copies of documents can be easily accomplished at any police station or post office. This expedites the subsequent online application process, which typically takes approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Minister urges on-time school admissions for improved planning

Moreover, Minister Maynier stressed the crucial role of on-time applications in enhancing planning and improving the placement process across the province.

He called upon parents and guardians to collaborate in ensuring a smooth and efficient admission process for the upcoming academic year, stating, “We would like as many parents and guardians as possible to apply on time so that we can use this data to plan ahead and further improve the placement process in our province.”

As the deadline approaches, Minister Maynier’s message serves as a reminder for parents and guardians to prepare diligently. This ensures a seamless transition into the next school year for pupils across the Western Cape.
