In a media briefing today, 8 April, government confirmed the arrest of Thabo Bester and his accomplice, Dr Nandipha along with a Mozambican national in Tanzania last night.

DNA results of person who died at Mangaung Correctional Centre
The police have received the DNA results of a burnt corpse found in a cell at the Mangaung Correctional Centre.
This was now officially confirmed to not belong to Thabo Bester.
Autopsy results uncovered that the victim had sustained blunt force trauma to the head.
He was already dead before the fire.

As a result, the authorities have opened a case of murder against Thabo Bester, in addition to the case of escaping lawful custody
Bester and accomplices to be collected tomorrow
Tomorrow, 9 April, a delegation of senior officials from the South African police and the justice and correctional services will depart for Tanzania.
The officials will receive assistance from the office of the Tanzanian commissioner representing South Africa there.

The government expresses confidence that Tanzania will provide cooperation in this matter and commends the level of cooperation received thus far.
