On Monday, EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu and members of the EFF gathered in Parktown where Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan appeared before the Zondo commission.

Shivambu claimed that Gordhan was “the biggest fundraiser for Jacob Zuma to win Presidency in Mangaung,” and added that “now he is acting like he is an angel.” He said that they will remove Gordhan in the same manner that Nhlanhla Nene and Zuma were removed.

According to the EFF leader, Gordhan created a rogue unit that collected spy tapes “to bargain with Jacob Zuma and say he will not expose him.” In his address to the crowd, Shivambu said Gordhan’s daughter has eight companies, and all of them received government tenders. The EFF demanded that Gordhan be fired for his involvement in the state capture.

In response to Shivambu’s comments, Gordhan’s spokesperson Adrian Lackay demanded that Shivambu admit his involvement in the VBS Mutual Bank scandal and declare his sources of income. As reported by Kgothatso Madisa from Sowetan Live, Lackay said:

“It is time that Mr Shivambu explained to South Africans, and in particular the people of Limpopo, when money stolen from VBS Mutual Bank will be repaid. It’s time for him to disclose what other sources of income funds his own lifestyle and that of other leadership figures in the EFF.”

With regards to Shivambu’s comments about Gordhan being a liar and a spy, Lackay invited the EFF leader to share any evidence he has against Gordhan with deputy chief justice Raymond Zondo, who chaired the commission held at Tiso Blackstar in Parktown.

Members of the EFF were joined with Black Land First protesters in what turned out to be a day-long protest “to picket against the corrupt minister.”
