Gigi Buffon is surely not over his sending off in last night’s Champions League quarterfinal match against Real Madrid.

Juventus keeper, Gianluiggi Buffon and English referee, Mike Oliver will definitely not be exchanging postcards anytime soon, judging from the veteran shot-stopper’s angry rant following his side’s Champions League exit at the Santiago Bernabau on Wednesday night.

The Italian legend was sent off in the closing stages of the quarter final tie against Real Madrid, after protesting a penalty given to the Spanish giants, after defender Mehdi Benatia was adjudged to have fouled Lucas Vazquez inside the box.

Cristiano Ronaldo converted the penalty, sending the Turin side crashing out of the tournament, after they had done all the hard work in erasing a 3-0 deficit to draw level on aggregate.

At 40, this was likely Buffon’s last chance at getting his hands on the prestigious European title and, when interviewed on Thursday morning, it was quite evident that he was far from over his sending off.

Buffon had been the star of the show as he showed why he’s still one of the world’s best, despite his age, as he pulled off crucial saves to keep Juve’s hopes alive.

The Italian side had a dream start, as they got on the scoreboard as early as the second minute, through another veteran, in Croatian striker, Mario Mandzukic.

Before the break, it was game on as the Croat doubled the lead by slotting in a header in the 37th minute.

Frenchman Blaise Matuidi made it 3-0, and level on aggregate, after he capitalised on a goalkeeping error by Keylor Navas.

The Juve defence, with Buffon a colossal presence, held firm as the game looked destined for extra time, until the penalty which resulted in the veteran keeper’s sending off, leaving former Arsenal stopper, Wojniech Szczesny to deal with the Ronaldo thunderbolt, which sent Real into the semis.
