‘I remain loyal’: Steenhuisen fires another prominent DA MP

The DA has fired prominent Member of Parliament Ghaleb Cachalia who also served as a Shadow Minister in the Department of Public Enterprises.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has removed Ghaleb Cachalia from his position as Shadown Minister in the Department of Public Enterprises.

According to Cachalia, he was fired on Thursday, 3 November.

In a statement shared on social media, Cachalia said he received a letter from DA leader John Steenhuisen on Thursday midday informing him that he has been removed from his position as Shadow Minister.

Cachalia said he strongly contests Steenhuisen’s version of events contained in the letter which has been leaked, however, he will not enter into a debate about who said what.

“It is the perogative of the leader of caucus in Parliament to hire and fire members of his Cabinet. I will now proceed to perform my legislative and oversight dueties from the backbenches and will ensure that I serve the party and the nation in continuing what I began,” Cachalia said.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR GHALEB CACHALIA?

In his statement, Cachalia said he entered politicis to remover former president Jacob Zuma and followed through to eradicate his legacy of ineptude and malfeasance which persists in the ruling party.

“I will persevere in this regard in the run-up tp the election next year. I will continue to keep a watchful eye on human rights abuses here and globaly and I will always speak truth to power,” he added.
