Many beaches in the George area of ​​the Western Cape were temporarily closed due to the strong waves, that washed away cars.

The weather was not good in many places this weekend, but many were surprised by the damage caused by the waves on the Garden Route.

Although it was hot and there was no danger during the day, many beaches in the George area of ​​the Western Cape were temporarily closed due to high tides.

When did George beaches close?

On Saturday afternoon, the George Municipality issued an order telling people not to go to the closed beaches because the waves are strong.

This warning has been well received in the minds of the people of this area as videos posted on social media show the damage caused in Herold’s Bay.

The wave washed away the cars on the road and stuck them in the wall of the house from which the gate finally came off. People who were walking on the road in this area found themselves floating in the water with two cars that were parked on the edge of the sea.

The emergency services worked hard to rescue residents in Herold’s Bay and Victoria Bay on Saturday night and in Die Poort in Mossel Bay, the residents there were crying because of the unusual waves in these places that are very popular with tourists.

Are there any deaths cause by the massive waves?

In Gordon’s Bay, those on the upper floors survived because the cars on the road and food places were severely affected by this.

A 93-year-old female has sadly passed away. Our understanding is that she was swept off her feet by a wave that penetrated a car park, causing cars to be swept with that wave
