GDE extends THESE online admissions application deadlines

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has extended the closing date for the 2024 Online Admissions application period for Grade 1 and Grade 8 to July 21.

According to the GDE’s Spokesperson, Steve Mabona, the application period was initially scheduled to close on July 14, but the department extended the date due to parents preferring to submit their documents at schools.

“As such, this extension will allow them to submit documents after the school recess, which is due to commence from June 23 until July 17. Parents now have until July 21 to apply and will be allowed to upload or submit documents until July 28,”

Mabona said.

‘IT WAS FITTING TO GIVE PARENTS AND GUARDIANS MORE TIME TO APPLY’

GDE MEC Matome Chiloane said it was fitting to give parents and guardians more time to apply and upload or submit documents at schools.

“We are also proud of having processed over 400,000 applications within a week. This is a testament to our system’s improvement and the demand for the quality education which Gauteng offers,” Chiloane said.

MORE THAN 400,00 APPLICATIONS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED

The GDE has urged parents to apply early to avoid disappointment. They can apply online at www.gdeadmissions.gov.za.

HERE ARE 10 EASY STEPS TO APPLY

Here are the steps on how to apply for the 2024 Online Admissions application period for Grade 1 and Grade 8 to July 21:

1. Go to the GDE Online Admissions website.
2. Click on the “Register” button.
3. Enter your personal details and the learner’s details.
4. Create a username and password.
5. Click on the “Submit” button.
6. You will receive a confirmation SMS with your username and password.
7. Log in to the system using your username and password.
8. Apply to a maximum of 5 schools.
9. Upload or submit the required documents.
10. Click on the “Submit” button.

HAVE THESE DOCUMENTS READY

The required documents are:

• Parent and Child ID or Passport
• Refugee Permit
• Asylum Seeker Permit
• Permanent Residence Permit
• Study Permit
• Your South African Birth Certificate
• Proof of Home Address
• Proof of Work Address
• Latest Grade 7 School Report (Grade 8 applicants only)
• Clinic Card/Immunisation Report (Grade 1 applicants only)

You can upload or submit the documents to the schools you applied to. You can also submit the documents to the GDE Admissions Office.

The closing date for the application period is July 21. You can apply online at any time during the application period.
