Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie did not take Defence Minister Thandi Modise’s criticism of party manning the country’s border lying down.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Modise says its illegal for citizens to patrol the borders and that they should leave it to the police, Border Management Authority and the South African National Defence Force.

PATRIOTIC ALLIANCE CONTINUES PATROL

The party has spent most of this week patrolling in weakened border areas near Beit Bridge such as the Limpopo River and turn away a large number of illegal immigrants attempting to make their way into South Africa.

“You can arrest a few of us Minister, you will never be able to arrest all of us, this country doesn’t belong to you but to South Africans and we will fight for South Africa”, says McKenzie.

NO ARMY OR BORDER MANAGEMENT

McKenzie who had in an early post said ‘the country is naked’ told the minister that there is possibly more security guarding Johannesburg’s economic hub-Sandton than the country’s porous borders.

“We couldn’t have obstructed the police or army at the border, they didn’t come to work at all, I have seen more police & army in Sandton than at Beitbridge”, he quipped.

Meanwhile the Department of International Relations Head of Public Diplomacy, Clayton Monyela, has intervened and says Border Management will intensify patrol along the river.

“After seeing this I called BMA. They confirmed to me that they’re aware of this & other vulnerable areas along the Beitbridge border. They promised to intensify the deployment of guards supported by SANDF”, says Monyela.
