Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi will deliver his first State of the Province Address (SOPA) from the Johannesburg City Hall at 17:00 on Monday, 20 February. The DA in the province said they want his speech to outline how he will make good on the key promises he made when he assumed office in 2022.

LESUFI TO DELIVER HIS FIRST SOPA

Some of the key promises Lesufi made when he took office last year included the acceleration of invoice payments, the introduction of new specialised schools, refurbishment of hospitals, allocating funds for the creation of spaza shops for South Africans, establishing a provincial state bank, transforming the province’s hostels, and scrapping e-tolls.

The Premier was sworn in October 2022 after he clinched the position of ANC Chairman in Gauteng by a slim margin in June.

“We no longer want empty promises but want our residents to know that service delivery will improve and that the SOPA is not just a box-ticking exercise.

“The time for politicking is over, and service delivery needs to happen now. Our residents deserve a government that they can trust,” said DA MPL Solly Msimanga, the official leader of the opposition in Gauteng.
