The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says severe frost is expected until Wednesday morning. Pet owners have been urged to keep them warm.

The City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services has urged pet owners to consider keeping them in a warm place as cold weather persists.
This comes as very cold temperatures accompanied by light snowfall have been reported in parts of Gauteng.
City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services spokesperson William Ntladi said the extremely cold conditions do not only affect human beings, but they also affect animals equally.
Ntladi said those who are owners of pets that generally sleep and stay outside are advised to consider keeping them in a warm place as well.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned that temperatures are expected to drop very low going into the week leading to frostbites and hypothermia to those exposed.
“The City’s firefighters and disaster teams remain on high alert for the frigid conditions as focused by the South African Weather Service,” he said.

Furthermore, communities have been urged to remain vigilant, especially when using heat sources to keep warm. As the temperatures drop, the risk of a fire in one’s home, office and workshop rises.
