With the latest fuel hike, motorists think and try all sorts of tips to ease their bills.
Some have joined lift clubs, others have downgraded to smaller and more frugal vehicles, and others have been attempting crazy hacks, like fuel pills, to get through tough times.
Let’s look at some fuel hacks that work and ones you shouldn’t even try.

Hacks’ you should not even consider trying:
Luckily, there are proven techniques, but they may not be what you expect. Techniques such as defensive driving, not speeding, anticipating traffic conditions, avoiding reckless driving and planning routes are the best way to get results.
According to Herbert, introducing these ‘hacks’ can reduce fuel consumption by up to 20%.

Masterdrive CEO Eugene Herbert shares why fuel pills should be avoided at all costs and offers fool-proof tips to reduce fuel usage.
He furthermore explained that two problematic ingredients, naphthalene and ferrocene, were found in fuel pills that make them ineffective and potentially damage your vehicle.
“If a fuel pill contains either ingredient, there is little to no benefit and can even cause greater fuel consumption. If you do not know what it contains, you are being taken advantage of and, worse, adding potentially harmful substances to your vehicle.”

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced the official fuel price adjustments for March 2023.
Petrol and diesel prices will increase in March by 127 cents and 30 cents per litre, respectively.

The changes come into effect from Wednesday, 1 March 2023.

The department said in a statement that petrol prices are increasing at a higher rate than diesel because of lower inventory levels globally and closures of refineries in some countries for seasonal maintenance. The impact of the EU sanctions on diesel imports from Russia was already priced in, it added.
