Frustrated SASSA beneficiaries queues for hours as system goes offline

South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) beneficiaries in Eldorado Park were highly frustrated when the State owned banking institution Postbank system was offline for hours on Thursday, 6 January 2023.
SASSA BENEFICIARIES ANGERED AS POSTBANK WENT OFFLINE
This Postbank offline network error caused considerable frustration as beneficiaries, who receive their SASSA grants through the Postbank, had to wait in long queues from 6:00 the morning.
As reported by Eldos FM, Postbank confirmed their system was down from 6:00 this morning.

This is always happening, and only particular beneficiaries are affected by the pay-out.
SASSA ENCOURAGE BENEFICIARIES TO OPEN BANK ACCOUNTS
Shantell Abrahams said: “This is a big problem. People need this money.

“Children need to eat and have school things.
“The system is conveniently off now in January. We have needs and must eat. School is also opening next week.”

Mayoyo Nxele wanted to know: “How are parents going to pay for their children’s school fees?”
The system was down until at least 14:00 on Thursday, causing people to stand in long queues most of the day.
According to SASSA, the problems are different for everyone and only those receiving their social grants through Postbank were affected.

SASSA encourages beneficiaries to open accounts with mainstream banks instead to avoid future problems with payout through the post office.
As reported by The South African Postbank said it has been experiencing a number of technical glitches that disrupted the smooth withdrawal of social grants.
Postbank further advised grant beneficiaries using the Postbank issued gold cards to withdraw their monies at any retail outlet that provides cashback functionality.
They can withdraw their monies at Shoprite, Checkers, USave, Boxer and Pick n Pay.
