Free State parents’ murder – what we know so far:

According to provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Motantsi Sam Makhele, the bodies of the murdered couple were found near Lovedale Plot. Their house was covered in bloodstains, according to the authorities.

“The ‘elderly couple’ had been stabbed. A joint venture with various police units was launched and intensified investigations led to the deceased’s house in Constantiapark, where blood stains were found.”

The couple’s teenage daughter and three of her friends, aged between 15 and 29, were arrested. Further investigation led the team to Sasolburg, where another suspect, in their early thirties, was arrested. We’ve been able to uncover the following details from the Free State branch of SAPS:

  • The murdered couple were found with multiple stab-wounds, and their bodies had been burnt;
  • We understand that the Corsa bakkie is still missing – it’s thought to be vital to the rest of the investigation;
  • One suspect was found outside of Free State – the accused was arrested in Vereeniging, Gauteng.
  • All five of those arrested are facing two murder charges each. Meanwhile, the woman in her thirties may be a blood relative of the slain couple too – police are still trying to verify this information.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane applauded the investigating team for their around the clock work, which ensured a 72-hour lockdown period to trace all suspects was met.
