NOT AGAIN! Ford Kuga catches fire

A Mossel Bay mother and her kids have managed to escape unharmed after her Ford Kuga spontaneously caught fire.

A Western Cape mother has had the worst school run after her Ford Kuga caught fire while she was going to drop her children off at school.

Speaking to the SABC, the vehicle owner Jolene Smith says if it were up to her, all Kuga’s would be recalled.

Ford however, has since acknowledged the incident and issued Smit, with a courtesy vehicle.

The company however has accused the Mossel Bay mother of not servicing her vehicle timeously.

In an email they say, “We have ascertained that the vehicle in question have over 200 00km in mileage and was last serviced at a Ford dealer at 20 000km”.

Ford South African, adds that two weeks prior to the incident, Smit was quoted for critical engine repairs which she declined.

7000 VEHICLES RECALLED IN 2019

The car model has had a bad name for itself since 2015 when close to 56 Ford Kuga 1.6 Ecoboost’s spontaneously caught fire without warning, claiming one life.

Reshall Jimmy was discovered burnt to death in his vehicle in the Western Cape in 2015.

National Consumer Commission fined the Ford Motor Company R35 million in November 2019 for all the Ford Kuga fires. Around 7000 vehicles were recalls.

An electrical fault was ruled as the cause of the fires, but Ford had refused to take the blame.
