The City of Johannesburg law enforcement agencies will be on high alert on the New Year’s Eve to monitor the use of fireworks as illegal use constitutes to hefty fines or arrest.
According to the City of Joburg, fireworks have been a contentious matter around the festive season. The noise released by firecracker devices is extremely loud.
“The offender can be arrested and will be charged for disturbance of peace.”

In addition, the loud ‘boom and bang’ sounds released by firecrackers can be health risks to both human beings and animals as they release toxic substances into the air, the City warned.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) will be conducting operations regarding the illegal use of firecrackers this festive season.
“Fines have been put into place to ensure that fireworks by-laws are adhered to by all who reside, visit and work in the city of Johannesburg. JMPD may impound firecrackers if any dealer does not adhere to the conditions of the fireworks license,” the City further warned.
