Animal rescue organisation, SPCA in Randburg, Johannesburg, has expressed its frustration with the increased number of animals being brought into their care since the beginning of the festive season.

FESTIVE SEASON ACTIVITIES NOT SO PLEASANT FOR THE SPCA

“December marks the start of the festive season. Christmas trees, decorations, time spent with family, it’s a time we all relish.

“But it’s so much harder as a rescue organisation to cherish this time. Mainly because we spend day after day taking in unwanted animals and stray animals,” the organisation vented on its social media platform.

“As the municipal pound, we will never turn an animal away, but this creates strain on an already strained organisation.”

ANIMALS RESCUED SINCE START OF DECEMBER

Since the first of December, the SPCA said it has had 120 cats and 115 dogs brought to them.

“One of the reasons we emphasize sterilization and microchips is because some of these intakes could have been avoided. This is excluding the exorbitant amount of cruelty investigations we are undertaking at the same time. Unfortunately, animals are being bred faster than we can rescue them,” the organisation highlighted.

HOW TO LEND A HELPING HAND

Although the SPCA vented a bit, the organisation is still driven to rescue and help the animals in need, of course with some support from the public.

“We rely on public assistance to continue this journey. If you would like to make a donation to help all the animals in our care, any amount is gratefully received,” the organisation appealed.
