Father arrested after pointing out bodies of his four children in Limpopo

The father will be charged with four counts of murder and will appear in the Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court.

A 52-year-old father has been traced and arrested in ga-Phasha Selatole village, Limpopo, on Tuesday 18 February after he allegedly told his neighbour where to find the bodies of his four children. 

According to Limpopo police, the father will be charged with four counts of murder and he will appear in Mecklenburg Magistrate’s Court within 48 hours of his arrest.

Bodies of four children found at two different locations

The neighbour informed the police and on their arrival, the lifeless bodies of three children, aged nine, seven and fiv,e were found in the nearby bushes.

“A three-year-old was found next to the local mountain, about 3km from the first scene,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo.

Father allegedly stopped vehicle transporting his children 

Preliminary police investigations indicate that the suspect stopped the vehicle transporting the children from school on Monday 17 February at about 15:30. 

The driver, who apparently knows the father, stopped and let the kids go with their father.

Three of the children were found with stab wounds. The youngest was found with open wounds.

The children were identified as follows:

  • Katlego Pasha, a nine-year-old boy;
  • Joyce Pasha, a seven-year-old girl;
  • Tshepo Phasha, a five-year-old girl; and 
  • Adel Phasha, a three-year-old boy.

A father is meant to protect

Provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba, also visited the scene of the crime and has condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms.  

“It was allegedly perpetrated by someone who was supposed to protect these victims,” said Ledwaba.  

“The motive for this brutal murder is not known at this stage. Four counts of murder have been opened and police investigations are continuing,” he added.

Father allegedly hangs four children in separate incident 

The bodies of four children were found shortly after 14:30 on Tuesday 3 September 2019. KwaZulu-Natal police revealed that the father had deliberately taken his children out of school in the middle of the day, and his teenage daughter was killed some time afterwards:

“The bodies of three children – aged four, six and 10 – were found hanging in their home. The children had been fetched home from school earlier in the day. Furthermore, the 16-year-old girl was also last seen with her father on Tuesday. Her body was found hanging in the bushes in New Germany. A murder case has been opened”.
