Farmer in KZN stabbed in neck and back by worker

A farmer in Greylands, KwaZulu-Natal was allegedly stabbed in the neck and the back on Saturday evening.

THE SERIOUSLY INJURED MAN WAS RUSHED TO HOSPITAL

According to Prem Balram spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), they were called out to the poultry farm at approximately 20:24 on Saturday evening.

Balram said on arrival the reaction officers were informed that the seriously injured male was rushed privately to a hospital.

“According to the family, the 28-year-old farmer and his father were interviewing staff in an office in regards to theft of crates when the worker stabbed him.”

The farmer’s father drew his firearm and discharged at least four rounds.

“The worker is believed to have been shot in the leg however this could not be confirmed.

THE WORKER IS BELIEVED TO BE STILL AT LARGE

“He fled the scene before the arrival of Reaction Officers. A second worker was found handcuffed inside the office.”

Balram added that two spent 9mm cartridges and the knife used in the attack were recovered at the scene.

“Reaction Officers searched for the worker but he still at large.”

He said the Tongaat police were on the scene.

Police could not yet confirm or provide more information on the incident.

Earlier this year a 50-year-old Howick forester was stabbed and killed in a farm murder. Suspects fled in his bakkie.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said the 50-year-old farmer, Trevor Murphy, was stabbed and killed when a gang of armed robbers forced their way into his home.

In February this year, a 37-year-old farmer outside Kroonstad in the Free State has shot and killed three of his four attackers after they stabbed him in the neck and head in the violent attack.
