Kelly Khumalo has established herself among the most prominent entertainers in South Africa. Renowned for her angelic voice, she is able to balance between her work and being a mother of three. So, who is she?

Kelly Khumalo is a South African, singer, songwriter, actress and dancer. Thanks to her talents, she secured a part in’s youth drama and portrayed Sunay in Rhythm City in 2007.

She was born on 11 November 1984 in Vosloorus but later moved to KwaZulu-Natal. As of this writing, Kelly Khumalo’s age is 38 years and her star sign is Scorpio.

Kelly’s mother is called Ntombi Khumalo, while her sister is Zandi Khumalo, who is also in the music industry.


Khumalo wears many hats. A prominent figure within South Africa’s Afro-Pop music scene, she initially gained recognition as a multifaceted talent encompassing acting, singing, and dancing. Her ascent to fame culminated in her being acclaimed as the Best Newcomer of 2005. Additionally, her musical prowess was further validated as she clinched the Best Female Artist accolade at the 19th South African Music Awards (SAMA) held at Sun City.

The trajectory towards her spotlight moments commenced when she caught the attention of Sarah and Bonsai Shongwe, the visionaries behind Bonsai Entertainment. This fortuitous encounter took place in 2003, during her participation in the Gospel Star Search competition, effectively propelling her on a path to stardom.

Her inaugural professional show occurred at a Kaizer Chiefs football match, performing before a massive 30,000-strong audience. Within just two months in the music scene, she opened for American Rap icon Missy Elliot. Following her 2005 debut album TKO, Kelly Khumalo has continuously surged ahead.

Furthermore, her album Itshitshi, launched in late 2006, and her third album “Lobola” also received nominations for the SAMA awards.


The popular singer has been linked to several notable personalities in SA. Firstly, she had a relationship with TV personality Jub Jub, with whom she had her first child called Christian born on 12 May 2010.

In addition, she was also romantically linked to the late Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa. Together, they had a daughter called Thingo, born on 19 March 2014.

Recently, Khumalo had her third child, born in 2023. Although the singer has yet to show the baby’s face, she has revealed her name, Luna. Zimoja has since reported that Kelly’s “baby daddy” is her rumoured boyfriend of three years – Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mthokozisi Yende. The former Kaizer Chiefs player first sparked romance rumours with Kelly back in July 2021.
