eThekwini Water Shutdown: Now Durban residents won’t have water

eThekwini Municipality has announced a planned water shutdown in Tongaat and parts of Durban starting at 8am on Wednesday.

Durban residents living in the Northern parts of the city and Tongaat will be without water on Wednesday due to a planned maintenance shutdown the eThekwini Municipality has announced.

“eThekwini Municipality would like to inform residents of Tongaat North of Durban and surrounding areas about the planned water shut down that will affect water supply in some of the areas in the region,” the municpality said in a statement on Monday afternoon.

“The Municipality’s Water and Sanitation will undertake a planned shutdown at Tongaat water works.  This shutdown will allow for refurbishment and upgrade of electrical and mechanical components on the Burbreeze and Mamba Ridge pumps located at Tongaat waterworks,” eThekwini municipality said.

“To safely execute both electrical and mechanical work for these pumps, the entire pump station will therefore be locked out for the duration of the upgrade,” eThekwini Municipality said.

The eThekwini Municipality’s water shutdown process will commence on Wednesday 19 May 2021 from 8 am to 4pm. 

According to the municipality’s announcement the following areas will experience no water supply during the shutdown period during the upgrade to the water system:

• Emona Township

• Metcalfe

• Ghandi’s Hill

• Belvedere

• Flamingo Heights

• Belgate

• Gwala farm

• Chelsmoford

• Buffeldale

• Watsonia

• Mitinager

• Amanzimnyama

• Wewe

• Fairbreeze

• Jan Roz

• Sandbreeze

• Magwaveni

• Pringle Village

• Burbreeze

• Ghandinager

• Trurolands

• Brake Village

• Vanrova

“eThekwini Municipality apologises for any inconvenience caused during this period, and requests residents to use water sparingly,” eThekwini Municipality said.
