eThekwini REOPENS these swimming pools and beaches

On Saturday, the eThekwini Municipality released a list of the swimming pools and beaches that have reopened and those that are still closed.

On Saturday, 5 November, the eThekwini Municipality released a list of swimming pools and beaches that have been reopened.

There are still a number of beaches that will remain closed until further notice, it said.

“The City is constantly monitoring water quality at all beaches to ensure the safety of residents and visitors,” said the Municipality.

Which swimming pools are open?

  • Rainham swimming pool;
  • Durban North;
  • Pipeline;
  • Umgababa; 
  • Tiger Rocks swimming pool; 
  • Umlazi D; 
  • Anstey’s;
  • Tesouriere;
  • Tills Crescent swimming pool; 
  • Arena Park; 
  • Westville;
  • Lahee Park;
  • Marianridge swimming pool; 
  • Chesterville; 
  • Kings Park for the Gala; 
  • South beach swimming pool and;
  • Bay view.

Which beaches are open for swimming?

  • Point; 
  • uShaka;
  • Addington; 
  • South Beach; 
  • Wedge; 
  • North Beach; 
  • Bay of Plenty; 
  • Battery; 
  • Country Club Beach; 
  • Brighton; 
  • Reunion;
    Pipeline Beach;
  • Toti Main; 
  • Warner Beach and; 
  • Umgababa.

Which beaches are still closed?

The eThekwini Municipality says that the following beaches remain closed until further notice:

  • Westbrook; 
  • Bronze; 
  • Laguna; 
  • Thekwini Beach; 
  • uMhlanga; 
  • uMdloti Beach; 
  • Winkelespruit and; 
  • Anstey’s.

It was reported previously that the news comes as political parties in the province (the Democratic Alliance and ActionSA) are preparing to take the municipality to court over the raw sewage that’s flowing into rivers and the lack of maintenance on infrastructure.

Action KZN Provincial Chairperson Zwakele Mncwango criticised the municipality giving the public a green light to swim yet raw sewage is still flowing into some beaches. The video Mncwango shared was taken on Tuesday, 1 November at Battery Beach which is one of the beaches that were reopened by the Municipality.
