EThekwini Municipality mayor Mxolisi Kaunda wants the Eastern Cape government to share a portion of its budget to help with the up keep of the city. This is due to the influx of migrants from the province.

Kaunda made the utterances at an event a Water and Sanitation Conference at the Durban ICC on Wednesday.

THE GREAT EASTERN CAPE MIGRATION

During his rant, the mayor claims that the money received from Provincial government is not enough.

“We are servicing the people of the Eastern Cape. Our R65 billion is short really because your people are here looking for greener pastures” said Kaunda.

The utterances were a pivot to the water issues discussed during the event.

Kaunda has acknowledged that the poor water supply is a major problem in the metro.

Since the beginning of the year, many communities within the city’s northern areas have had little to no water

“When you see us on television with people saying there are problems of water in eThekwini, I know what comes first to our minds; it is that everyone in eThekwini does not have water.”

This week, fire fighters struggled to douse a blaze at a factory in Verulam due to having no water.
