200 new Metro Police Authorized Officers have been deployed across the City of eThekwini to combat bylaw infringements.

In a bid to combat bylaw infringements and crime in the city of Durban, eThekwini Municipality has deployed an additional 200 new metro cops.
“To demonstrate its commitment to reducing crime in eThekwini, 200 new Metro Police Authorized Officers have been deployed across the City today,” the municipality confirmed.

According to eThekwini, in the central region 100 officers have been deployed, of this 90 will be patrolling the central business district (CBD) for by-law enforcement and street trading compliance while 10 officers will be deployed to central region suburbs.
In the inner west region, 50 officers have been deployed to the Pinetown CBD while 10 will be hitting the streets of the south region.
In the north region, 20 officers have been deployed to the Verulam CBD and airport.
And finally, 20 Authorized Officers will be assigned to offer specialized tactical support and VIP services.
Commenting on this deployment, Metro Police Spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu said the boost to the Metro Police force will go a long way to increase police visibility and curb crime.
Have they graduated already? At the beginning of the year, the Durban Metro Police was accepting applications from members of the public with an interest in joining the force.
Following the deadline, the Durban Metro Police Service announced it had received over 100 000 job applications for its future intake.
Out of the lot, at least 1000 applications were submitted by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
