South African power utility Eskom has shed more than 6 800 hours of electricity in 2023 – and there are still dark days ahead before the end of the year!

According to the Outlier website, that figure was correct as of Tuesday, 5 December.

Incredibly, Mzansi has only had 1 326 hours with no load shedding this year!

It’s worth noting that there are 8 760 hours in a 365-day year …

That 6 800 hour figure is up considerably from the 3 780 hours lost in total in 2022.

For the past eight years, Stage 2 was the most common stage of load shedding.

However, 2023 saw a shift: South Africa saw 1 940 hours of Stage 4 load shedding, the most common stage.
