ESKOM PLUNGES THE COUNTRY TO STAGE 6 LOADSHEDDING

In the latest statement, Eskom said due to the delay in returning nine generating units to service, the stages of loadshedding will be escalated this week.

“Monday, 01 May 2023: Stage 3 loadshedding will continue to be implemented until 05:00 on Tuesday. Loadshedding will then be increased to Stage 4 from 05:00 until 16:00 on Tuesday, while Stage 6 loadshedding will be implemented from 16:00 on Tuesday until 05:00 on Wednesday,” Eskom updated.

OUT OF SERVICE GENERATING CAPACITY AFFECTING SUPPLY

Thereafter, the power utility said various stages of loadshedding will be implemented as per the loadshedding table below:

“Breakdowns are currently at 17 920MW of generating capacity while the generating capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 3 412MW.”

Eskom added, “The delays in returning a unit to service at Arnot, Camden, Duvha, Kendal, Kriel, Lethabo, Matimba, Matla and Tutuka power stations contributed to the current capacity constraints. The team is working around the clock to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible”.

POWER UTILITY THANKS THOSE USING POWER EFFICIENTLY

“We thank those South Africans who do heed the call to use electricity sparingly and efficiently in helping to alleviate the pressure on the power system, as this is assisting in avoiding higher stages of loadshedding,” said Eskom.
